Wood Flooring Considerations

Installation Type

Let us know if you're considering Nail Down where the floor is nailed directly into a wood subfloor, Glue Down to a properly treated concrete or wood subfloor, or Floating. Floating flooring comes two ways: You can either click and lock the planks together or glue together the planks at the tongue and groove. The finished product “floats” over the underlayment. We can help you select the right underlayment for your situation and provide helpful installation tips.

Stain Color & Finishing

Do you want a smooth, continuous grain like Maple and Oak or something that has more color variation or rustic characteristics like a Hickory and Cherry? Also, tell us about your stain preferences — dark and rich, light and warm. We also offer several hand-scraped floors textured to provide an artisan, distressed wood floor look. Visit our Wood Flooring Photo Gallery to see some of the many styles we offer.

Types of Floors

We recommend engineered wood because of its affordability, ease of installation and durability. This product combines a hardwood top layer (or wear layer) with a plywood base to create an extremely stable product that is less prone to cupping and warping than solid wood — making it great for humid climates. The planks come pre-finished, so they are beautiful and ready to install right out of the box.

Measuring

Wood is ordered by the square foot. If you're measuring multiple spaces, divide them into rectangles (the hallway is one rectangle, main room is another). Measure each rectangle's length and width and record the measurement in feet. Then multiply the length and the width to get the square feet of each rectangle. Just add the rectangles and you're all set.

Finishing Touches

Every line we offer has matching thresholds and finishing pieces to create beautiful transitions throughout your home. Plus, we can supply base boards and shoe moulding. Many of our customers purchase pre-primed base moldings – a great time-saving and money-saving option. Just let us know if your space is new construction or if you are remodeling. We'll help you plan your entire floor project from choosing the proper underlayment/moisture barrier for your floor to selecting the moldings and trim to make it complete. Details like door trim and crown moldings can take a room from bland to beautiful.

Ready for New Flooring? We Make It Easy.

Our Design Team is ready to help you select and order new flooring. Here's what you can expect with our easy 3-Step Process:

1

Step 1: Tell Us About Your Project

  • Describe the space or rooms for your flooring project. What are the room dimensions?
  • What type of flooring are you considering (vinyl, laminate, porcelain, etc.)?
  • What is your budget? What is your time frame?
  • Do you have photos or style preferences that you like?
  • Will you be replacing moulding? How about door trims or base boards?
2

Step 2: Your Flooring Recommendations and Quotation are Ready

Using your measurements and wish list, we recommend your flooring options. We can set up a call, zoom or email the specifics and provide a detailed quote as well as answer any questions you have. Our design team will continue to work you to make sure you love the materials and finishes. And, while online shopping is quick and convenient, we know that sometimes it helps to see samples in person. We're happy to provide samples to you. The sample fees can be subtracted from the cost of your flooring when you place your order.

Step 3: Finalize Your Design and Place Orders

Our Design Experts work with you to make sure your final design, materials and finishes come together. Before placing your order, we will also ask if there is anything else you need for your home. Many customers take advantage of our efficient shipping and consolidation services and bundle additional products with their order. So if you have been meaning to replace that warped door or change the light fixtures, consider adding it to your order to save on shipping. Once we have your approval, the order is placed. Typically, a 50% deposit is due when ordering. For shorter time frames, full payment may be due. The full balance is due prior to shipping.
